Indonesia is,,,,,

Indonesia is a kaleidoscope of different peoples, languages, cultures and traditions. the 17.000 islands from the world's largest archipelagic chain is home to more than 200 million people descended from over 200 different ethnic groups. there are over 350 different languages spoken by these peoples and to nearly all of them, "bahasa indonesia" the national language is actually a second language and not their mother tongue, it is spoken as the first language only in the provinces of west sumatra and the riau islands there less than 3% of the population live. like american english which is derived from british english , "bahasa indonesia" is derived from "bahasa melayu", with the differences between the two being more pronounced than the differences between american english and british english. there are now moves to get "bahasa indonesia" {and "bahasa melayu"} accepted as one of the official languages of the association of south east asian countrias. this would give greater significance to "bahasa indonesia" and make the learning of it more useful not only for use in indonesi but also for use in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
